The Full Mueller
THE FULL MUELLER
At some point tomorrow afternoon (4/18/19) the Trump justice department will sick up a computer file which contains the details of what storied G-Man Robert S. Mueller and his thirteen angry Democrats determined regarding Russian state interference in the 2016 US presidential election, and the possible involvement of the Trump campaign in those activities.
Much is already known. Many have already been indicted, most of whom have either plead, been convicted... or are sitting in low-rise offices in metropolitan Moscow working on plans to interfere in the 2020 US election cycle. The GRU officers and other Russian state actors can be indicted by federal prosecutors but of course will never face justice in the United States. This is one way to perpetrate a series of massive criminal offenses against the political structure of the nation without any fear of consequences. Another way to is to get yourself elected to the presidency.
You can't get indicted if you're the president. You can only be impeached. But then you have to be convicted. This conviction occurs in the United States Senate. Or more accurately this conviction doesn't occur in the US Senate - at least it never has. Only two of 45 US presidents have been impeached and tried so we don't have much data to go on. The first was acquitted by a senate controlled by his own party (Johnson, 1867), and the other acquitted by a senate controlled by the opposition party (Clinton, 1999).
Twenty of 53 Republican senators would be needed to convict and remove Trump. This is why it isn't going to happen. This is why Pelossi pooh-poohs the idea and why Trump has been told he has no chance of being frog marched out of the White House by US Marshals.
Enter The Full Mueller. It's probable that evidence of Trump's brazen slaying of an innocent, African American teen in cold blood as he was strolling up 5th Avenue is in there there somewhere. There may also be audio recordings of Putin offering unlimited golden showers and high-rise building permits in central Moscow to a panting Trump. The Full Mueller could contain just about anything. But twenty or thirty news cycles later . . . the President and the country will be perpetrating and focusing on, respectively, the next outrage du jour.
The Full Mueller is a red herring. Fuel for the outrage machine. Kindling for the 21 Democratic candidates to burn themselves up talking about. But the senate will still never convict and will never threaten to as they threatened Nixon - and which led to his resignation.
No one who has been watching the reality show of Trump would entertain the idea that he will resign. And no one who understands the history and motivations of Grand Turtle Wizard Mitch McConnell can imagine him walking into the Oval and pointing a gun at Trump's head. Trump has a way of grabbing guns out of people's hands and shooting them in the head. Ask Jeb Bush. Or Chris Chistie. Or Tiffany Trump. So if our President did shoot that poor boy on 5th, or fellate Putin, we'll just have to swallow it.
